Social media marketing is a double-edged sword. On the one hand you’re dealing with a platform where the infrastructure has already been built around you, so the only costs that we have to worry about are advertising related, however this also means that you’re a slave to Facebook, Twitter and Google+’s rules and whims. For instance Facebook has just decided that they’ll update the Facebook pages which determines exactly how information will be displayed. Previously content went left to right however it seems that the social network thought that was too confusing (not a bad move) and have decided to make it more akin to their profiles where information about the page is on the left and content created by the page is on the right.
So what does this all mean for page owners? Not much. This isn’t meant to impact the algorithm that chooses where Newsfeed content is displayed however Facebook’s latest announcement that their Newsfeed will be changing may. Last year Facebook unveiled, to much adoration, the new newsfeed
Unfortunately it seems that the idea didn’t go down so well with the beta testers and Facebook has scrapped that newsfeed. Rather it seems that the social network behemoth will simply make the pictures larger and change the font. This is a shame as I was really looking forward to playing around with the new newsfeed.
